Polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) is a common hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age. In PCOD, patients have multiple small cysts in their ovaries. Ovulation results in irregular periods, amenorrhea, and ovulation-related infertility.When women have low-grade inflammation, it stimulates the ovaries to produce androgens, leading to PCOD. No one really knows what exactly causes PCOD, but it is likely the result of a number of genetic and environmental factors. If you are obese, all you need are weight loss plans. Eat more foods for weight loss and avoid sugary, salty and fatty foods as much as possible. Increase your protein intake to make up at least 30% of your diet; make carbohydrates less than 50% of your diet. Moderate exercise such as walking or swimming for at least 30 to 90 minutes each day goes a long way in managing this condition. It will also help you reduce or get rid of insulin resistance. Menopause is the period in a woman's life when the menstrual cycle stops and the woman is no longer fertile (cannot get pregnant). It usually occurs naturally, most often after the age of 45. Menopause occurs because a woman's ovaries stop producing the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Menopause and PCOS are a growing health problem for urban women. Studies show that 8% of Indian women between the ages of 35 and 39 show signs of menopause and 4% of Indian women between the ages of 20 and 35. This is alarming because the normal age for menopause is after 45 years of age. Women growing health problems A survey shows almost 20% to 25% increase in Indian urban women suffering from PCOS. PCOS occurs mostly in the age group of 15 to 40 years. Causes of early menopause and increasing PCOD in urban women • Urban lifestyle • Increase in the use of artificial reproductive techniques • Poor nutrition • Heavy smoking or drinking • Genetic factor There are many factors involved in each menopause and PCOS. But the above causes are the main factors that can be observed in urban women. Preventive measures such as lifestyle modification, stress management, proper nutrition, meditation, yoga and therapy should be incorporated into daily life. One should see a preventive health care provider to reduce future complications. Monitoring your body's metabolism will help prevent health problems. Proper medication and therapy recommended by a physician or preventive health care provider should be followed to prevent or alleviate menopause and PCOS.
